    Understanding our innovative approach to time series selection for maximum modeling precision and user experience.

    At EBITDAI, we've implemented a sophisticated split time series approach that combines the best aspects of annual and monthly modeling. This methodology is based on years of financial modeling expertise and provides the optimal balance between user experience and technical precision.

    The Challenge with Traditional Time Series

    Traditional financial models typically force users to choose between different time series approaches, each with significant tradeoffs:

    • • Monthly models provide maximum detail but can overwhelm users with unnecessary complexity
    • • Quarterly models require complex logic and don't align with natural business cycles
    • • Annual models are simple but struggle with intra-year calculations and mid-year events

    Our Split Time Series Solution

    EBITDAI's AI models utilize a split time series approach that captures the benefits of both annual and monthly time series without the drawbacks. Here's how it works:

    Structure Overview

    Every calculation within our AI models contains both annual and monthly components:

    • • Annual Section: Controls high-level assumptions and provides trend analysis
    • • Monthly Section: Handles detailed calculations and complex financial mechanics

    User Experience Benefits

    • • Intuitive Control: Users interact primarily with annual assumptions
    • • Clear Trend Analysis: Annual summaries make it easy to identify patterns
    • • Summary-to-Detail Flow: Natural progression from high-level to granular analysis

    Technical Advantages

    • • Complex Calculations: Monthly precision handles intricate scenarios
    • • Mid-Year Events: Seamlessly accommodates timing-sensitive transactions
    • • Actuals Integration: Easy to update with real financial data

    Real-World Applications in EBITDAI

    Our split time series approach enables EBITDAI to handle sophisticated financial scenarios that would be impossible with traditional single time series models:

    Revenue & Operations

    • • Seasonal revenue modeling with annual targets
    • • Working capital dynamics with monthly cash impacts
    • • Inventory cycles and receivables timing

    Financing & Strategy

    • • Complex equity raises with monthly burn calculations
    • • Debt service with precise payment schedules
    • • Covenant testing and capacity analysis

    The Technical Implementation

    Our implementation follows proven financial modeling methodologies:

    How Annual Assumptions Flow to Monthly Detail

    1. 1. Users input annual targets: Revenue growth, margin targets, headcount plans
    2. 2. AI distributes across months: Applies seasonality patterns and timing logic
    3. 3. Complex calculations execute: Working capital, debt service, equity raises
    4. 4. Results aggregate back: Monthly detail rolls up to annual summaries

    This creates a powerful feedback loop where high-level strategy drives detailed execution, while monthly precision ensures accuracy for complex financial mechanics.

    The Two Essential SUMIF Formulas

    While these formulas may appear complex at first glance, they are straightforward once you understand their purpose. Every split time series model relies on two key formula patterns:

    Formula 1: Annual Summation

    =SUMIF($3:$3, K$2, INDIRECT(ROW() & ":" & ROW()))

    Purpose: Sums all months within a specific year. For example, if this formula is in the 2026 column, it will sum all monthly values from January through December 2026. This is essential for P&L items like revenue, expenses, and cash flow.

    Formula 2: Year-End Values

    =SUMIF($4:$4, K$2, INDIRECT(ROW() & ":" & ROW()))

    Purpose: Finds the December (year-end) value for that specific year. This searches the monthly columns in the current row and returns the December value. Critical for balance sheet items like cash balances, debt levels, and any running totals.

    Formula 3: Spreading Annual to Monthly

    =@INDEX($A:$CN,ROW(),MATCH(@INDIRECT(ADDRESS(3,COLUMN(),2)),$2:$2,0))

    Purpose: Used to spread annual inputs to the months. By itself, it simply populates that month with the same number in the annual column of that month's year.

    Adjustment: When divided by 12 or the value in row 7, it is being adjusted to be a monthly portion of the annual total, enabling proper distribution of annual assumptions across monthly periods.

    These three formulas enable seamless integration between annual summaries and monthly detail, ensuring that users can work at their preferred level of granularity while maintaining mathematical accuracy throughout the model.

    Why This Matters for Your Business

    The split time series methodology allows EBITDAI to provide both the strategic overview executives need and the operational detail that CFOs and analysts require:

    • • Strategic Decision Making: Use annual summaries for high-level planning and board presentations
    • • Operational Precision: Dive into monthly detail when cash flow timing matters
    • • Model Accuracy: Handle complex financial arrangements without sacrificing usability
    • • Easy Maintenance: Update assumptions without rebuilding calculations from scratch

    This approach represents a significant advancement in financial modeling technology, enabling EBITDAI to deliver institutional-quality financial models with the simplicity users expect from modern AI-powered tools.
